Sinking our teeth into everyday life

Okay, so the title says everyday life...That is, if you were single parenting 2 kids in a foreign country with no one working or going to school.  Besides that, totally normal.  But for me it means really exploring an area and getting to see the insides as more of a local than a tourist.  In the last week we have (amongst other things) gone to the swimming pool, gone to an amusement park, wandered the streets of Bordeaux and found some great spots,  worked on school work and eaten new things.  Not bad.

A person at the local grocery store was giving out samples of this cheese.  I don't even know the name/type.  Casey tried it and asked if we could buy a slice.  She even asked the woman for "un tranche" (a slice.  Or I hope that's it) and got it herself.  Her is her slicing the rind off.

In front of another beautiful church in downtown Bordeaux

Giving Maya her first Casey piggyback ride.

Dinner at a creperie.  Mine had mushrooms and ham and cheese and salad.  Oh yeah!

View of the street where we dined

More views.  But the pics will never capture the electricity in the air, the people chatting and the Vespas buzzing by.

My oh my.  And last time I checked, Canada was above the U.S.  But what do I know?

The pool that we have gone to several times has a restaurant on site.  Not bad.  Not bad at all.

Oh yeah, and a little gateu du or de chocolat in there and a "grand creme" coffee.

The girls perusing through some magazines at the pool's restaurant

What a morning at the pool does to kids.  Success!

Maya enjoying the water facilities at KidParc.  This is probably before her string of time outs for being dramatic about the cold water.  Guess I forgot to snap pictures of that.

Casey chillaxing with a pirate monkey.  Duh.

What do you mean you've never been to a rat show where a rat climbs up a rope and boards an airplane.  Come on.

Happy rat mama.  Got her rat fill.

Down on the Quai, enjoying the weather

The water mirror or Miroir D'Eau for the fancy folks

Me, amongst the mist

 Fully enjoying the evening

What a great spot to practive cartwheels

There they are, bottom left.  Whoopie!

Casey showing you where they were in the previous picture

My meal for this evening.  I have been craving some steak.  Delicious!

Well, now you are all caught up on our week.  Sometimes it's better to just say it in pictures.
